The engineers on Apple’s innovative reliability team are responsible for insuring that our products exceed our customer’s expectations for robustness, durability, and reliability. We are looking for dedicated contributors who enjoy working on ground-breaking products and seeking to make them better through creation and execution of comprehensive test suites, identification of potential failure modes, and collaboration with design teams to drive product improvements. This particular position is on the iPhone system reliability team focused on multi layer board (MLB) reliability. You will be responsible for developing and performing tests to validate cutting edge semiconductor/ packaging technology and its integration in iPhone system, you will lead failure analysis with our outstanding technology teams to establish root cause and corrective actions. You will also be involved in ground breaking future technology development to insure our products continue to surprise and delight our customers for years to come. Come join our team!

Key Qualifications

  • Background in semiconductor technology through academic training and industry experience

  • Deep understanding of Silicon package design and failure mechanisms

  • Failure analysis techniques such as optical microscopy, x-ray or CT scans, scanning electron microscopy, FTIR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, FIB, laser etching, LiT, etc.

  • Application of Design of Experiments and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for audiences ranging from technicians to senior executives

  • Extraordinary problem-solving abilities with strong attention to fine details

  • Experience in developing and performing environmental and mechanical stress tests including shock, drop, and vibration

  • Ability to travel unrestricted

  • And most importantly, passion for building reliable products

Description

  • Preparing concise and detailed reliability test plans and reports with an emphasis on prioritizing tasks to meet ambitious deadlines - Developing new reliability tests, procedures, and specifications - Analyzing experimental data to provide in-depth understanding of design features - Researching innovative technology to understand root causes of test failures - Providing design direction to multi-disciplinary teams to improve product reliability - Interacting with a diverse and passionate group of team members to communicate results and provide program direction

Education & Experience

M.S or PhD in Electrical/Mechanical/Materials Engineering or Physical Sciences and 4+ years of experience in a related field or industry

  • At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $170,700.00 and $300,200.00, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
