Job Title: Claims Team Lead

Pay Range: $45.56 HR

We are seeking a highly experienced Workers Compensation Specialist to join our dynamic team. While County of Los Angeles experience is preferred, we welcome candidates with a strong background in workers compensation from diverse backgrounds. This position offers a hybrid work model, with the flexibility of two days in the office.

Responsibilities:

  • Foster team cohesion and support through regular communication via Microsoft Teams and phone calls, promoting a collaborative environment and providing assistance as needed.

  • Ensure adherence to payment procedures by approving overlimit payments in accordance with established protocols.

  • Assess and provide initial direction on new claim determinations, including decisions to delay, deny, or accept claims.

  • Review and authorize litigation and investigation referrals, ensuring thoroughness and compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Provide guidance to team members based on review of incoming mail, addressing inquiries and providing direction as necessary.

  • Monitor upcoming hearing dates and handle settlement authority requests, coordinating with relevant stakeholders such as examiners, legal representatives, and county personnel as required.

  • Oversee team performance to ensure monthly targets for core duties are met, leveraging provided reports for tracking and evaluation.

  • Review and facilitate the processing of Medata suspended payments, ensuring timely resolution by examiners.

  • Approve benefit notices prepared by examiners to ensure accuracy prior to mailing, and verify and authorize benefit payments exceeding examiner thresholds, ensuring all requisite documentation is complete and compliant.

  • Maintain accuracy of claim coding and update essential fields as needed, ensuring data integrity and regulatory compliance.

  • Provide timely and thorough responses to customer inquiries via email and phone, offering support and guidance as required.

  • Conduct regular reviews of claims for supervisor direction, with a focus on lost time claims and potential delays, adjusting frequency as necessary based on evolving needs.

Requirements:

  • Preferred experience within the County of Los Angeles, although candidates from diverse backgrounds with relevant expertise are encouraged to apply.

  • Ability to work in a hybrid model, with two days per week in the office, offering flexibility and adaptability.

  • A minimum of 10 years of demonstrated experience in workers compensation, with a mandatory self-insurance certificate.
